Source: GOP Buttonholing Morris Freeholder Christine Myers for Frelinghuysen Seat

Powerful GOP party members have approached Morris County Freeholder Christine Myers of Mendham Twp. to run for the seat retiring U.S. Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-11) will leave behind, a source told InsiderNJ.

Myers first took the oath of office on the board of freeholders in 2016. A businesswoman, she launched a specialty food business in 2013 after a 25-year career as a technology and telecommunications executive and consultant.  She was appointed in late 2017 as the Regional Advocate for the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Office of Advocacy, Region Two, which includes New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a GOP source told InsiderNJ that while he likes a woman on the ticket this year, he has questions about whether Myers can raise a sufficient amount of money to be competitive with Navy helicopter pilot Mikie Sherrill on a runway shortened by Frelinghuysen’s announcement.

The source said Frelinghuysen intends to stay out of the Republican scrum caused by his retirement decision.
