Source: Murphy Expected to Sign Sports Betting Legislation this Weekend

Insider NJ editor Max Pizarro looks at the political standoff between the NJ Legislature and Gov. Phil Murphy over the proposed 2020 budget, which was passed by both the Assembly and Senate and is in Murphy's hands.

Governor Phil Murphy is expected to sign sports betting legislation into law this weekend, most likely on Sunday, a source told InsiderNJ.

Following a Supreme Court decision last month, the New Jersey Legislature this past Thursday (37-0 in the Senate and 73-0 in the Assembly) passed a bill that delineates the taxing and regulation for people 21 and over to bet on sports games.

UPDATE: After some internal wrangling within the administration, it didn’t happen as expected, leaving the initial source to wonder whether the Governor would proceed with the bill signing on Monday.
