Sources: Turnout was Good… And then Came the Rain

RED BANK – As rain hit and hit hard in some places of New Jersey, both sides began taking stock of the new terrain.

“Cold rain sucks,” said a source when InsiderNJ asked if anything was new.

Hoboken, Edison and Jersey all reported higher than average local turnout, with the numbers far exceeding those posted in 2013.

In LD11, a battleground district where Democrat Vin Gopal wants to take out Senator Jennifer Beck (R-11), the streets took on a dreary look. Earlier today, GOTV workers – many of them sporting IBEW sweatshirts – mobilized out of party headquarters in Wall.

Beck, meanwhile, maintained a rapid, town to town pace.

She’s up against it in a district that Democrats won two years ago, this time with late network television, the ill effects of Christie and Trump and arguably a less than robust top of the ticket that tilted right at the wrong time. But Beck has a well-fortified brand.

Down the stretch, LD11 and LD2 looked like the season’s most obvious battleground legislative districts.

“We’re playing in both of them,” Senate President Steve Sweeney told Insider, as he prepared to mop up in his own LD3, the most expensive legislative race of all time.
