Statement from Chris Corsini, Candidate for Somerset County Surrogate

John Sweeney's tragic passing shocked and saddened all of us.  John was a man deeply committed to his family, his community, and our shared profession.  He would have made an outstanding Surrogate.  As for me, I had no intention of running for any office before, or any time in the near future.  But the circumstances of this vacancy are so unique and tragic that the only responsible decision was to answer Chairwoman DiFrancesco's call to serve.  My decision was, in no small part, also affected by the many calls of support I received, including from our Commissioner candidate, Nick Cuozzo, and many of my friends in my hometown of Bridgewater, including Mayor Moench.  I was further moved by the support I received from our excellent candidate for governor, Jack Ciattarelli, whose commitment to service and the betterment of our community has always been an inspiration to me.

This campaign will certainly not be about me - my focus will be honoring John Sweeney's legacy and working hard to help Nick, Michael Manochio, and Michelle Mayorga, who have spent months getting their message and vision out to the voters of Somerset County.  I will also do all I can to ensure that Jack Ciattarelli is the next governor of our great state.  There's a lot of work left to do in the last seventy days of this campaign, and I am happy to pitch in and help our team successfully cross the finish line on November 4th.
