Still Punching, Lesniak Sees Election Day Dispassion for the Democratic Establishment

Insider NJ shows a live stream of the NJEDA tax incentive task force's third public hearing.

Michael Aron called state Senator Ray Lesniak’s (D-20) Democratic Primaary bid a “quixotic quest” for the governorship, but with time ticking down on Election Day, the veteran retiring lawmaker Lesniak said he has a “puncher’s chance,” and bad-mouthed Phil Murphy’s campaign.

“I see very low turnout,” said Lesniak. “I see very little enthusiasm for Murphy.”

He laughed.

“And a lot of enthusiasm for me,” he added.

He admitted that the conventional wisdom favors a solid Murphy win.

“But Murphy voters aren’t Murphy voters,” the senator said. “They’re Democratic organization voters. They have no passionate connection to the candidate. So I’m hopeful. I have a puncher’s chance, but I’m prepared for victory or defeat.”
