Suleiman Calls on Pelosi to Punish Van Drew

Atlantic County Dem Chairman Mike Suleiman

Atlantic County Democratic Chairman Michael Suleiman today called on Speaker Nancy Pelosi not to seat Congressman Jeff Van Drew and the other Republican members of Congress who tried to overturn the results of the presidential election.

“Trying to overturn the results of the presidential election because one’s candidate lost has significantly harmed our democracy,” said Suleiman. “Peaceful transfer of power has been a cornerstone of our republic for 240 years. Never before have elected officials so brazenly attempted to subvert our free and fair elections. Even the U.S. Supreme Court recognized this as nothing more than a partisan attempt to override the will of the people. Congressman Van Drew has lost all credibility to represent us in Washington and should not be seated.

“As hard as I worked to defeat him, I recognized Congressman Van Drew’s re-election in November because that is how democracy works. For him not to recognize Joe Biden’s victory because he pledged ‘undying support’ for Trump is a violation of his oath to the Constitution of the United States.”

From the Star-Ledger:

“Van Drew, who switched parties after voting against impeaching Donald Trump and then embraced the president, asked the U.S. Supreme Court Friday to throw out the election results in four battleground states so Trump could win a second term.

“Van Drew, R-2nd Dist., is one of 126 House Republicans who signed a brief in support of an unprecedented effort by Texas and 17 other GOP-run states to have the U.S. Supreme Court throw out millions of ballots in four battleground states that flipped to Joe Biden last month, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan and Wisconsin. Trump had won all four in 2016 en route to the White House.”
