As of Tuesday March 31, 2020 the Sussex County Division of Health (SCDOH) was notified of 15 additional cases of COVID-19 among county residents and the county lost two residents to COVID-19.

The total number of cases of COVID-19 in Sussex County is at 137, an increase from Monday’s 122.

Sussex County Freeholder Director Sylvia Petillo is saddened to announce two additional COVID-19- related deaths in Sussex County, the first in a 63 year old male from Vernon, and the second in a 75 year- old male from Sparta. The Sussex County Division of Health (SCDOH) has been working with those individuals who came into contact with these patients. Those identified as close contacts are in their homes under self-quarantine and being monitored by the SCDOH staff.

The Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Sussex County Division of Health extend their condolences to both patients’ family and friends during this difficult time. The SCDOH is taking all possible steps to ensure the health and safety of our community, and asks for the public’s cooperation in following all recommendations put forth by county, state, and federal agencies.

The Sussex County Division of Health is the lead agency for investigation of confirmed cases of COVID- 19, which includes contact tracing. During case investigation, the SCDOH determines which persons are close contacts, as defined by the New Jersey Department of Health, and makes the appropriate recommendations to those individuals.

The statewide COVID-19 case count is 22,255 as of Wednesday afternoon, with 355 fatalities total.
