Sweeney Gently Thumps His Chest Over Scutari Win

PARAMUS – Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-3) picked up a win this week with state Senator Nick Scutari’s (D-22) victory at a special convention to designate the next Union County Democratic Committee chairman.

“Nick’s a dear friend and a leader,” Sweeney told InsiderNJ this morning here in the Bergen County burgh. “That’s why he’s chair of the judiciary. He’s got a lot of strong skills he’s a great guy.  Union County had a couple of good candidates. I’m just a Nick Scutari guy and I’m proud of him.

“Politics is politics,” he added. “In times of division you have a fight and now you come back to together.”

Scutari’s win gives Sweeney a caucus ally in a northern chairman’s position.

Hudson expects the same from state Senator Brian P. Stack (D-33), who’s ready to succeed Vincent Prieto as chair of the Hudson County Democratic Organization (HCDO) later this year.

As Sweeney spoke, state Senator Paul Sarlo (D-36) walked into City Hall.

Sarlo won’t run for the chairmanship of the Bergen County Democratic Committee, he said.
