Targeting Incumbent in CD2, Youngblood ‘Annoyed’ that LoBo is a Republican

ATLANTIC CITY – For Democrat Tanzie Youngblood, Donald J. Trump has so damaged the moral authority and credibility of the GOP that she really didn’t have to reach when asked her why she wants to run next year against U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R-2).

“I want to be the voice of the people in South Jersey,” the Woolwich resident and retired teacher told InsiderNJ in the Borgata at the Democratic State Committee Conference. “What annoys me is my opponent is a Republican. He is billed as a moderate Republican, but I feel there is no such thing as a moderate Republican as long as the party facilitates Donald Trump.”

The peel-off of GOP senators last night actually killed Trump’s effort to undo the Affordable Healthcare Act, but Youngblood said she simply doesn’t see enough energy from LoBo – or hear him. “He’s flip flopped a lot,” she said, referring to the congressman’s vociferous opposition to the AHCA one minute, and then his tack back to support it the next. “Either that or he’s been silent. If my opponent has a plan, I don’t know what it is.”

A widow and mother of two sons – including a soon-to-be-deployed Naval officer, and a chemist who also teaches – Youngblood retired from the Southeast Delco School District as an American History teacher. The proud NJEA (New Jersey Education Association) member and public education advocate counts Thurgood Marshall and John F. Kennedy as two of her heroes from American History. Kennedy was the first person she ever supported for president, based on seeing him debate Richard Nixon in 1960. As a congresswoman, she said she wants to give voice to those poorer and underserved towns in the 2nd District, among them Millville, Bridgeton and Vineland. The core of her mission is economic and social justice.

“I’m inspired,” she said. “I know that I’m on the right track.”

So far she hasn’t reported any money raised. The Republican Congressman has $432,462 in the bank, according to the Federal Election Commission (FEC).
