The Other Time Stack Went Publicly into a Neighboring Hudson City in a Mayor’s Race

JERSEY CITY – At today’s north Jersey City event, Union City Mayor (and 33rd District state Senator) Brian P. Stack noted that he has never gone into another municipality to organize for another Hudson mayor.

But he later amended that comment, pointing out that he did, in fact, take troops into West New York in 1991 to organize on behalf of Albio Sires, when the future congressman ran for mayor against incumbent Mayor Anthony M. Defino.

Sires would lose by 36 votes – but then later go on to succeed Defino as West New York mayor prior to succeeding Bob Menendez in Congress in 2006.

InsiderNJ pointed out to Stack that he did help longtime rival state Senator Nick Sacco in the dual office holder’s 2015 mayoral reelection, but Stack noted that this was just for one day – Election Day.
