TRENTON – Back channel budget negotiations continued this morning between Governor Phil Murphy and legislative leadership.

It’s nothing official – no SUV parades to and fro – but they have one another’s cellphone numbers, as they noted yesterday, and they’re using them, sources in both camps said.

As that went on, progressive activists found themselves encountering resistance to their entry at the statehouse.

They showed up presumably to pressure lawmakers to back the Governor, and could not gain entrance unless accompanied by legislators, a source told InsiderNJ. But that didn’t stop a number of them from gaining entry and choking the subterranean corridors at the statehouse.

Now there’s a 2 p.m. meeting scheduled between the Governor, Senate President Steve Sweeney and Speaker Craig Coughlin.
