Trump's Attacking Jersey, that's Why I Focus on Him, Says Sherrill

MORRISTOWN - Does Mikie Sherrill talk too much about Donald Trump?

Jack Ciattarelli says she does. In fact, Ciattarelli says it just about every time he speaks.

It's obviously too late to change anything, but amid a raucous pre-Election Day rally Monday afternoon in the heart of her congressional district, Sherrill addressed the issue.

"My entire campaign has been focused on New Jersey issues," she said. "Unfortunately, Donald Trump is attacking New Jersey and I talk about that as well."

The problem, she said, is that her focus is on affordability and that the Trump Administration ain't helping.

She referred to the tariffs, the recent cut off of SNAP benefits and the termination of the Gateway Tunnel.

"The real problem is, who is not taking on Trump," she said.

That would be Ciattarelli, who has said he would give the president a grade of A.

Sherrill spoke at a "launch rally" for volunteers at Morris County Democratic headquarters. Her supporters overwhelmed the storefront headquarters and spilled out into the street.

Spirits were high.

Dems are enthused about the early vote numbers.

As of Monday afternoon, 675,319 registered Democrats have voted early by mail, or in person, compared to 385,767 registered Republicans. The view from the Democratic side is that the discrepancy will be too hard for Ciattarelli to overcome on Election Day.

Regarding tomorrow's vote, Sherrill was asked about Passaic County where federal monitors will be on hand.

Does she see this as an intimidation tactic?

Well ... maybe.

Sherrill said that the U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, Alina Habba, seems more interested in turning the state "red" than administering justice.

With that in mind, she said her campaign has been alerted to what may happen in Passaic and is ready to respond if needed.

More broadly, Sherrill said it's "really meaningful" to be in Morristown, which is where her congressional campaign - and political career - began seven years ago.
