Union County Showdown: Kologi Prepares for Northgrave Appeal

ELIZABETH – The attorneys and their rival retinues spilled out of the courtroom into the hallway following a ruling by Superior Court Judge Katherine Dupuis in favor of the allies of state Senator Nick Scutari (D-22), one day ahead of a special convention to pick a new county party chair.

“I’m going to confer with my client [Acting Union County Democratic Committee Chair Colleen Mahr] and examine the possibility of appeal,” the defendant’s attorney, Bill Northgrave, told InsiderNJ.

Mahr had wanted the judge to enjoin the use of voting machines to ensure a smooth process, while Scutari pointed to the committee’s bylaws spelling out the use of an open vote.

Ed Kologi told InsiderNJ,  “We’re obviously pleased that the judge granted a preliminary injunction.”

He said he expects a Northgrave appeal.

“We’re going to argue that they shouldn’t hear it at this point,” the plaintiff’s attorney said.
