|Former Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg today established the Loretta PAC in order to continue her mission to increase racial and gender diversity in government, to end misogyny in the workplace and in politics, to be a fierce advocate for both commuters and consumers, and to serve those most underserved in the state by supporting the individuals and organizations fighting for justice and equality in our communities.
“I’ve retired from the State Senate but I have not given up on making New Jersey a better, more equitable, more just place to live, work and raise a family,” said Weinberg. “I got into politics because I saw problems that needed fixing. Now some of those battles, like marriage equality, have been won. Other fights, like environmental justice, are more pressing than ever before. Luckily New Jersey is full of brave, thoughtful, dedicated and principled people continuing to fight discrimination, demand government accountability, and lead our state into a greener, brighter future – this PAC was formed for them.”
The Loretta PAC will be chaired by the Honorable Margaret M. Hayden, Superior Court, Appellate Division, retired. The PAC’s kickoff fundraiser on September 14th will be chaired by Peg Schaffer, Vice Chair of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee.
“Loretta is one of the most consequential legislators in our state’s history. She has been in the trenches, fighting on the right side of every issue for her entire career. She has been an ally, an inspiration and a friend,” said Schaffer. “I am proud to be part of the continuation of not only her legacy but her hopes for the people of New Jersey.”
For people looking to support former Senator Weinberg’s mission or interested in attending the upcoming kickoff, details can be found here, with more to follow.
Loretta Weinberg once said, “I want a whole generation of troublemakers following in my footsteps.” This PAC is established to make sure that happens.
