Welcome to the InsiderNJ Podcast: Assemblywoman Marisa Sweeney Breaks Down Her AI Bill

MORRISTOWN - InsiderNJ this morning interviewed Assemblywoman Marisa Sweeney (D-25) about her bill, A4732, which would require artificial intelligence (AI) companion chatbots to provide clear and conspicuous notifications that users are not communicating with a human.
“With AI rapidly changing the way people interact – and form relationships, we have an obligation to ensure its development does not come at the cost of our well-being. AI companions are becoming increasingly more sophisticated and able to mimic human connection, making transparency more important than ever,” Sweeney said in a statement. “New Jerseyans deserve to know when they are interacting with artificial intelligence. This legislation would equip users with information to help them make informed decisions when using these platforms.”
The bill passed last month out of committee.
Elected last year to represent LD-25, Assemblywoman Sweeney received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Nutrition and Food Science at Montclair State University, her Master’s degree from Northeastern University and her Doctor of Clinical Nutrition from University of North Florida. Sweeney practiced dietetics at Hackensack University Medical Center, Holy Name Medical Center, and the Kessler Institute of Rehabilitation. She was also a 2020 honoree of NJBIZ’s “40 Under 40” award.
In the podcast she also considers other legislation she's working on, reflects on nearly a year in office, and considers the coming Nov. 3rd election.
