Bridgewater Schools Go to Distance Learning Plan Effective Monday

Bridgewater. Sometimes we win.

The Bridgewater-Raritan School District tonight announced the closing of its buildings and the implementation of a distance learning plan effective Monday, March 16, 2020 through Friday, March 27, 2020.

“Our first priority continues to be the health and well-being of our students, teachers, and staff members.” read a district email blast. “As you know, we have been proactively preparing to continue delivery of instruction through distance learning since the NJDOE indicated, last week, that if we have a plan in place for consistent home instructional services while closed, such days would count toward our 180-day requirement.

“Public health officials continue to advise that social distancing is the most effective strategy to prevent the spread of COVID-19. We recognize that school closures will create challenges for our families and our community, but we also recognize our responsibility to address this public health concern.”

All field trips, school events, and activities are also postponed, effective Monday, March 16, 2020.

The district will evaluate the situation each week and, if necessary, extend its distance learning program.

“Families and students will receive more information on our distance learning program over the coming days. Our program includes supporting families with technology needs as well as maintaining programs, including free and reduced lunch and special services.  The program will begin for students on Monday, March 16, 2020. Please note that students, family members, and community members will not be permitted in any school building until further notice. ”

It is possible that action from the NJDOE or the governor may supersede at some point. The district will adjust plans if necessary.

Earlier today, the township notified residents of a presumptive positive case of COVID-19 (coronavirus) in a township resident. The test result has been sent to the CDC for confirmation.

The patient is a 25-year-old man who had close contact with a COVID-19 patient in Pennsylvania. He is currently in isolation. “The Bridgewater Health Department is monitoring the patient and working with the state to identify any potential contacts for follow-up,” said Christine Madrid, Director of Human Services.
