Debate over County College Employees Dominates Caucus Rooms

The Freeholder fight unites more than it delights.

TRENTON – The Assembly planned to move ahead this afternoon with Assembly Bill 2001, which would transfer county college employees and retirees from membership in the School Employees’ Health Benefits Program to membership in the State Health Benefits Program.

Members of the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) don’t like the bill and pushed back.

Their members roamed the hallways here hoping to stymie the bill.

But, emerging from the caucus chamber a short time ago, legislative leadership appeared ready to move forward with the bill.

Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle (D-37) could be seen discussing the matter on the floor with Assembly Majority Leader Lou Greenwald (D-6).

The same issue dominated the senate Democratic caucus for over an hour.
