Decorated War Veteran Gov. Moore Praises 'Unafraid Public Servant' Sherrill

NEWARK 'Keep your eye on Wes Moore," a Newark insider told InsiderNJ, referring to the Maryland Governor, who hit the streets here in support of Mikie Sherrill.

This is a veteran who's watched the herd of presidential aspirants come and go through the jaded, grubby turnstiles of one of the nation's prime political cash cows.

The insider wouldn't say the name of the person whom Moore reminded her of but clearly meant Baraka Obama.

Governor Moore.

Multiple candidates are already positioning themselves to run for president in 2028, and they're using New Jersey as the staging area.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer was here yesterday campaigning with Sherrill.

Moore today.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro is coming in next week.

And United States Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ)?

Brick City's his hometown.

Today was Marland Governor Moore's NJ audition, and he received a rousing reception here in the West Ward among 32BJ members, West Ward Democratic Committee people, elected officials, and Newark neighbors.

Governor Moore with U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill.

A decorated combat veteran, Moore presented an impeccable public figure as he cited his two chief reasons for backing Sherrill:

She's a public servant, he said, "and someone who spent her life fighting for people."

And - quoting Prince's "A Case of You" - she's unafraid, he added.

"I'm drawn to those who are unafraid."

"I know at this moment there is a lot of anxiety," said Moore. "I just want to be very clear - when you think about what is happening right now - when we have a federal government right now that is on day 19 of an unnecessary federal government shutdown because there are people in Washington, D.C. who think a prerequisite to keeping government open is kicking people off of healthcare or raising premiums by 95%.

"That we have people right now forcing our federal workers to come into work without getting paid," added the governor. "We have people going to work and not getting paid and people getting paid and not working.

"But I'm drawn to those who are not afraid."
