Governor Sherrill Votes Early, Addresses Stevens Endorsement in Michigan Battleground

PRINCETON - A couple of black SUVs with government plates rumbled into the parking lot of the community center here and a moment later Governor Mikie Sherrill alighted on the sidewalk.

A gaggle of reporters met her when she reappeared after voting early ahead of the Nov. 3rd midterm election. She pointed to a sticker on her lapel that said "I voted" and no one bothered asking for whom.

InsiderNJ wanted to know about U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens (D) backing Republican Mike Rogers over her fellow Democrat (and primary conqueror) Abdul El-Sayed and how Sherrill thinks it might impact that key battleground contest.

Dems need a net gain of four seats to wrest control of the U.S. Senate from the GOP, and they want to hold onto Michigan.

"You can't be a Democrat and vote for Mike Rogers," Sherrill said. "He is against everything we stand for in the Democratic Party, whether it's choice or the fact that he has stood with Trump and costs have gone up, the war in Iran and the tariff war.

"We are fighting for families in the Democratic Party and Mike Rogers just isn't," the Governor added. "I think we're going to see some good results [in Michigan]."

Sherrill also addressed CD-7, where she expressed confidence about the chances for victory of Democratic challenger Rebecca Bennett. "They've built quite a firewall there," she observed, looking ahead to Tuesday.

In addition, she spoke to ensuring safe elections. "As we look at any attempts to undermine our democratic elections in this cycle we will be taking actions to make them more secure although we have one of the most resilient systems in the country."
