In Hoboken, Zimmer’s Departure Means Giattino has to Ask the Hard Question

Beloved by Hoboken moms and people on both sides of the aisle, a former pro ballet dancer and business owner, Council President Jen Giattino could emerge from out of Dawn Zimmer’s departure to launch a bid for mayor, a source told InsiderNJ.

Reformers have spent the last month leaning on the Tom Kean Republican, who appeared loathe to challenge Zimmer as long as the mayor appeared to be on course for reelection.

But with Hudson County Freeholder Anthony Romano – set to formally get in the race tomorrow – and Councilman Mike DeFusco splitting the born and raised vote, Giattino might not be able to resist jumping into the contest, a source told InsiderNJ.
