Newark’s So-Called Unity Slate Cruises to Victory in School Board Election
For the third year (2018-2020) in a row our “charter candidate” won second place in the Newark School
board election, Charter Sector Campaign Manager Jermaine James noted. “Flohisha Johnson is the first backed charter candidate to win re-election on the Newark Mayor Ras Baraka slate. We (charter sector) are now a political force to be reckon with, with charter parents volunteering daily to make phone calls, text and use of social media to other newark parents during this historic VBM election. We are here and aren’t going anywhere and look forward to continuing to work with the Mayor’s organization and North Ward political org.”
So far, in their friendly intra-slate rivalry for citywide bragging rights, the North Ward-backed Josephine Garcia remained the frontrunner, followed by Johnson, followed by Team Baraka rising star Hasani Council.
Everyone had a chance for everyone affiliated with the three-pronged Newark establishment to proclaim victory. The vaunted North had the most votes; or, in the words of a South Ward-based Baraka confidant, “It was a Team Baraka Sweep.”
