Mauro Tucci and Joe Scarpelli were battling for the top spot in the Nutley commissioners’ election.

According to the Essex County Clerk’s Office, Scarpelli had 4,141 votes and Tucci had 4,122 votes.

The top vote-getter becomes mayor in Nutley.

The two other candidates who appeared on their way to victory were Alphonse Petracco (4,093) and Thomas Evans (3,034); while John V. Kelly (2,596) was trying to fend off Marie Hamlin (2,491 votes) for that fifth seat.
