Belleville challenger Carmine Mattia says he has no intention of conceding tonight to incumbent Councilwoman Marie Strumolo-Burke with more ballots - at least 302 - remaining to be tallied.

Right now, Strumolo-Burke leads Mattia, 458 to 382.

"I'm not going anywhere until all votes are counted," Mattia told InsiderNJ.

Mayor Mike Melham and Mattia learned from the county that there were 1,142 ballots cast as of 4 p.m. on Tuesday. That tally did not include VBMs postmarked today.

So there are - at a minimum - 302 ballots left to be counted.

"We're very confident this election is not over and we will be at the Board of Elections Office first thing tomorrow morning,"" Melham told InsiderNJ.
