Jefferson's GOP Divide

JEFFERSON - The Republican primary for mayor has some of Morris County's top GOP officials on different sides.
Jay Webber, the LD-26 Assemblyman, has endorsed Christian Barranco, the man challenging incumbent Mayor Eric Wilsusen.
That is not all that surprising, given the fact Barranco and Webber served together in the state Assembly.
"We fought a lot of fights against the liberal Democrats down there," Webber said in a video posted on Barranco's social media page.
"Chris and I are on the same team," he added.
Barranco narrowly lost his LD-25 Assembly seat last fall to Marisa Sweeney.
Webber was introduced in the video as Jefferson's "favorite Republican son." An interesting description, given the fact Webber lives in Morris Plains.
Meanwhile, Wilsusen held an event this week at a local restaurant.
Some of those attending and speaking on his behalf were Sheriff James Gannon and Morris Commissioners Tayfun Selen and Stephen Shaw.
Shaw said county government must partner with municipalities to get things done and that Jefferson has been a great partner through the years.
He also complimented Wilsusen, a Jefferson police officer for 31 years, for dedicating his whole life to the township.
