Lonegan Announces Candidacy for Chairman of the New Jersey Republican Party

Steve Lonegan, longtime conservative champion, taxpayer advocate, and former Mayor of Bogota, today officially announced his candidacy for Chairman of the New Jersey Republican Party. Lonegan enters the race with a clear mission: to rebuild a fractured party, restore authentic Republican values, and lead the GOP to decisive victories in upcoming elections.
“For far too long, the New Jersey Republican Party has been content to manage decline instead of fighting for revival,” Lonegan said. “We’ve watched our state become more expensive, more overregulated, and more hostile to working families—while our Party leadership has lacked the energy, courage, and vision to stand up and win. That ends now.”
Lonegan’s campaign for Chairman centers on three core commitments:
- Rebuilding a Party Infrastructure That Wins
- Restoring Conservative Principles
- Reenergizing the Base and Expanding the Coalition
Lonegan has been one of New Jersey’s most recognizable and effective conservative voices for over two decades. As Mayor of Bogota, he held the line on taxes, cut waste, and fought Trenton bureaucratic overreach. As State Director of Americans for Prosperity, he led statewide movements to defeat tax hikes, stop reckless spending, and push for fiscal responsibility. Nationally, he served as a senior spokesman in Senator Ted Cruz’s 2016 presidential campaign and has remained active in promoting conservative policy across the country including President Trump’s MAGA platform.
“New Jersey is desperate for leadership that believes victory is possible,” Lonegan said. “I know we can win again. I’ve done it before, and I’m ready to do it for the NJGOP. It’s time for bold leadership—not business as usual.”
The election for NJGOP Chairman will take place later this year.
