Menendez Resigning

From The Washington Post: Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) plans to resign effective Aug. 20, according to two people briefed on the decision, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations.

The longtime Democratic lawmaker was convicted on July 16 of taking bribes from three businessmen who showered him and his wife with cash, gold bars and a Mercedes-Benz, an extravagant bounty for his help securing deals with foreign officials and trying to derail several criminal investigations in New Jersey.

New Jersey Democratic Chairman LeRoy Jones issued the following statement:

“I believe we are all more than ready to turn the page on this sad and tragic chapter of New Jersey history. Of course, when one chapter ends another begins and Senator Bob Menendez’s long overdue resignation will allow for the conversation to fully shift to November and our tremendous Democratic ticket. As evidenced by our delegation’s full-throated endorsement of Kamala Harris to be our Presidential nominee, we intend for that overflow of energy and exuberance to follow us into Chicago and all the way through November for Harris, our Senate race, our entire Congressional delegation, and every county and local official down ballot.”

  1. 18 plus years in politics for profit. Little consequencial accomplishments to speak of.

Add to it we’ll never know what secret or classified information that may have been passed on to God knows what hostile enemy countries.

Now NJ will have Andy Kim. Kim’s policies and positions are essentially the same as Menendez and other liberal Senators. NJ will maintain its status quo. Voters will go along mindlessly.

Good bye Gold Bar Bob. Perhaps you should retire to Qatar or Egypt. You certainly have friends there.

  2. Interesting how the Democrats throw Menendez under the bus, when most of them couldn’t pass a Federal investigation for taking bribes, extortion, or gold bars.
