Murphy Declares State of Emergency Due to Severe Storms

Today, Governor Phil Murphy declared a State of Emergency effective at 4:00 p.m. due to severe storms experienced throughout the state and forecasted severe storms causing hazardous weather conditions including periods of intense rainfalls, flash flooding, and damaging wind gusts. These severe weather conditions are expected to cause excessive runoff which may result in landslides, rock slides, and damaged roadways.
“Throughout the state, we have seen heavy rainfalls resulting in hazardous conditions and we urge residents to remain vigilant around flooded roadways and downed trees and power lines,” said Governor Murphy. “The safety of our residents is our main priority, and we recommend everyone to be informed of local weather conditions and to take necessary precautions.”

“Our State Emergency Operations Center has been activated to coordinate and support our local, county, and state emergency management partners with any resources needed to effectively respond to the severe weather affecting our state. We remain ready to assist residents and drivers both on and off of the roads for the duration of this storm as needed,” said State Director of Emergency Management and Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police Colonel Patrick J. Callahan. “However, we cannot do it without the help of our communities, so please stay off the roads and let emergency response officials do their jobs. Also, prepare emergency kits for use at home and in your vehicle, check on your neighbors, and remember, turn around, don’t drown.”

On Monday, Governor Murphy is scheduled to tour areas impacted by storms and flooding with U.S. Congressmen Tom Kean, Jr., Senator Steven Oroho, Senator Doug Steinhardt, Assemblyman John DiMaio, Assemblyman Erik Peterson, Warren County Director Commissioner Lori Ciesla, Warren County Commissioner Jason Kerns,  Warren County Commissioner Jason Sarnoski, Belvidere Mayor Kathleen Miers, White Township Mayor Anna Marie Skoog, Knowlton Mayor Frank Van Horn, Hope Township Tim McDonough, NJSP Superintendent Colonel Patrick Callahan, Board of Public Utilities President Joseph Fiordaliso, and Department of Transportation Senior Director of Operations Christopher Feinthel.

Starting Point: Belvidere City Hall, 691 Water St, Belvidere.

In the meantime, the Governor encourages New Jerseyans to visit ready.nj.gov for important weather updates and safety information. Residents should also pay attention to local forecasts, warnings, and watches.

  1. State of Emergency for what? Murphy call a state emergency for stupid stuff like the little boy that cryed wolf!!! I think we all know to stay in when it’s raining ! Idiot!

  2. Would be nice to have this done earlier and that the state of emergency includes lowering reservoirs to allow for rain intake. Too often the state of emergency is placed after the rains start and it’s too late to prepare. It’s not like no one knew these rains were coming. It’s really unacceptable that he claims the people are their priority when his inaction places them at risk to begin with.

  3. Susan Macauley, you’re a moron. Declaring a state of emergency allows the federal government to provide financial assistance to affected areas. It has nothing to do with staying out of the rain. Why not learn something, or is your MAGA hat on too tight?

  4. Not stupid!Well said Michael…just because it doesn’t affect them doesn’t mean it is not important.

  5. Well NJ YOU GUYS VOTED FOR THIS GENIUS 👏. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. WHY I HAVE NO IDEA AFTER LISTENING TO EVERYONE COMPLAINING 🤣🤣🤣

  6. This guy’s a bigger idiot than Chris Christy was..
I can’t wait till this dumb dumb is outta office

  7. So if we are staying off the road and stay home and not work who is compisating for our wages

  8. Everyone complaining about the state of emergency doesn’t live here. We do. We see the main roads like route 46 and 519 completely washed away as well as people’s livelihoods destroyed. Just because you CAN comment doesn’t mean you SHOULD comment. Weirdos.

  9. For some of us who are not in flood, zones, or near any water, our homes have been destroyed and are not covered under homeowners insurance, so yes, it is a state of emergency for many people in Warren County

  10. I wish South Jersey could succeed from north Jersey. We want our own government and two senators. Stupid government of New Jersey hardly does anything for south Jersey and building ugly windmills off of our shores and the development and research is causing whales and dolphins to die. Yeah, screw Northern New Jersey. Why should our taxes do anything for you….Oh and before any of you libtards on here call me a moron. I know you are but what am I?
