Names in the Game: Fulop’s Scramble for Osborne’s Replacement in JC
A source close to Jersey City politics told InsiderNJ that Downtown Councilwoman Candice Osborne – citing family obligations – won’t run for reelection.
Mayor Steven Fulop is nonetheless trying to make a last ditch effort to continue to pitch her on staying for one more crack at the seat.
Fulop has been trying to have a back up plan in place but if she indeed doesn’t run again, he’s put in a tough spot to choose a replacement. Names include Nick Grillo who’s already in the race–a Funeral Home professional, Brian Platt, who works for Michael Bloomberg’s I-Team in Jersey City and Dixon Advisory’s Rebecca Symes.
A source confirmed Agustin Torres’ intel that in addition to the family factor, Osborne’s long-term political plans were squashed when Fulop opted out of the guv race – and she’s tired of the politics.
