NJ LGBTQ+ Dems Caucus: Councilwoman Robin Vaughn, Resign

By The NJ LGBTQ Caucus

We love Trenton. We attended Trenton’s first pride event last year. We go to Trenton Social’s LGBTQ+ meetup every month. We also enjoy going to the Trenton Thunder’s Annual Pride Night. And above all, we want to see Trenton grow and flourish.

In order for Trenton to continue to grow its residents must have trust in their City Council. Part of that trust comes from knowing your elected representatives respect all their constituents.

Recently, Councilwoman Robin Vaughn used extremely homophobic comments on a Council coronavirus call. Bigotry has no place in New Jersey and that is why we echo Governor Murphy’s call for Councilwoman Robin Vaughn to resign.

During a time of crisis, Ms. Vaughn used hateful words that cut at the very heart of the LGBTQ+ community. With a vibrant LGBTQ+ community in Trenton, the Councilwoman has shown she cannot be trusted as a leader.

“Disagree with a person’s policies, fine. But to use such hateful language should no longer be permitted or tolerated,” said Lauren Albrecht, Chair of New Jersey Democratic LGBTQ Caucus. “No more apologies.”

“Our State’s Capital deserves better,” stated David Grant, Vice Chair. “Offensive comments like hers create an extremely toxic culture of homophobia and this will not be tolerated.”
