NJEDA Tax Incentive Program Extension Passes Senate, Assembly

Both chambers of the NJ legislature passed the NJEDA tax incentive program extension bill. The Assembly passed it with a vote of 66-5-3 and the Senate passed it with a vote of 28-2.

Senate President Sweeney had to halt the beginning of the vote on S3901, the NJEDA  tax incentive program extension bill, as Senator Codey wished to address the Chamber.

Taking the floor, Codey announced he wouldn’t support the bill, saying its the ‘worst possible time’ to extend the tax incentive program.

The crowd in the gallery cheered Codey, and upon the bill’s passage (28-2), they booed.

‘If we have to clear the Chamber, we will’, said Sweeney.

Disruption ensued shortly after, with a warning that the Sergeant-At-Arms would remove those in the gallery disrupting the Senate’s proceedings.

Joining Codey in opposing the bill, Senator Sacco voted no.

Senator Vin Gopal (D-11) abstained.

“Too many questions,” the Monmouth County senator said.

The measure also passed the Assembly, 66-5-3.  Voting against it were Democrat Andrew Zwicker and Republicans Webber, Handlin, Peterson, Carroll.  Abstaining were Assemblymembers Gove, Quijano, and Rumpf.

Assemblyman John McKeon (D-27) was recorded as an aye vote for extension (see below) but told InsiderNJ he voted against it. His slate mate, Assemblywoman Mila Jasey (D-27), also said she voted against it, although the list shows an abstention. Same with Assemblyman Ralph Caputo (D-28).

All three submitted vote change forms.
