Onyema Backs Joel Brooks and Jake Ephros for City Council in JC Runoff

Assemblyman-elect Chigozie Onyema (D-28) this morning formally endorsed Joel Brooks and Jake Ephros in the Jersey City Council election.

Elected to the Assembly in November, Onyema this past weekend spent some time on the ground in Jersey City canvassing for Brooks and Ephros. Both candidates cross-endorsed James Solomon, so they share a slate. Onyema - chair of the Newark West Ward Democratic Committee - canvassed for the candidates with seven other people from Newark/Essex.

His full statement:

“I’m proud to support Joel Brooks and Jake Ephros for City Council. They’re champions for working people who understand that local leaders are on the front lines of the twin crises of our time: affordability and authoritarianism. From fighting for rent control to universal childcare to resisting ICE's abuses of power, they’ve stood shoulder to shoulder with working families—and they’re ready to deliver for Jersey City.

"I first got to know them years ago while organizing in my own community. They understand that power is built from the ground up and that governing works best when it’s done in genuine collaboration with the people they serve. I look forward to their service on the Jersey City Council and to partnering with them—and the entire Team Solomon slate—in the State Legislature.”
