Perello to Run for At-Large Newark City Council Seat

Ariagna Perello, a former Newark School Board President and former President of the Dominican Parade, this week took out petitions for an at-large run for city council.

Perello appears to be poised to join an opposition movement that includes former Newark North Ward Councilman Hector Corchado, and former Quintana aide Butchie Nieves, two other at-large hopefuls.

The group is mobilizing to challenge the sitting City Hall power structure helmed by incumbent Mayor Ras Baraka, who’s up for reelection in the May nonpartisan contest.

The incumbent at-large reps affiliated with Baraka are Councilman Luis Quintana, Councilman Carlos Gonzalez, Councilwoman Mildred Crump, and Councilman Eddie Osborne.
