22nd Legislative District Announces 250th Essay Contest for Middle School Students

Senate President Nicholas P. Scutari, Assemblyman James J. Kennedy, and Assemblywoman Linda S. Carter are proud to announce a Student Essay Contest open to students in grades 6–8 who reside within the district. The contest invites students to reflect on the future of our nation by responding to the prompt: “What do you think America will be like 100 years from now?”

This initiative aims to promote civic engagement, critical thinking, and student leadership while giving young residents an opportunity to share their ideas directly with their elected officials.

The contest will accept up to 250 submissions from across the district. Each of the three legislators representing the 22nd Legislative District will review the essays, and three winners will be selected.

Contest Details:
● Eligibility: Students in grades 6–8 residing in the 22nd Legislative District
● Submission Opens: March 9
● Submission Deadline: March 30
● Maximum Entries: 250 (one submission per student; submission closes once limit is
reached)
● Submission Method: Electronic submission via email
● Winner Notification Date: April 6

Awards:
● Each of the three winners will receive a $250 gift card
● Winners will also be invited to participate in a special “Chat and Chew” sit-down discussion with the legislators to share their ideas and perspectives

“This contest provides an opportunity for young voices to be heard and encourages thoughtful civic participation” said Senator Scutari. “We believe our students have powerful and creative ideas about the future of our country,” said Assemblywoman Carter. “We look forward to reading the essays submitted by our young constituents,” added Assemblyman Kennedy.
