In response to President Trump’s statement on his intentions to sign an executive order to end birthright citizenship, Johanna Calle, director of the New Jersey Alliance for Immigrant Justice released the following statement:
“We condemn this latest xenophobic attempt by President Trump to attack immigrants by stating he will end birthright citizenship with the signing of an executive order. This is clearly another political ploy by the administration in the wake of the upcoming elections. While President Trump’s proposal is unconstitutional, his continued nationalist rhetoric is creating fear for immigrant and American families alike, many who have relatives with mixed status. Our rights are protected under the constitution, regardless of immigration status, and as the federal administration continues to undermine American values, we must continue to fight in New Jersey for state policies that are fair and welcoming to all.”
