Ali Aljarrah Calls for Attorney General Investigation After Paterson Shooting
Commissioner candidate grieves senseless act of violence, calls for independent investigation into excessive use of force on a victim’s family member by Paterson police after the shooting
PATERSON, NJ — Ali Aljarrah, candidate for Passaic County Commissioner, released the following statement after a mass shooting event in Paterson with multiple fatalities:
“Last night, multiple people were killed, with more injured, in an act of gun violence in Paterson. I am absolutely devastated by this senseless act. My heart is with the victims, their families, and our community members grieving.
“My generation has grown up with the threat of gun violence constantly looming over our heads. Last night again underscores the need for policy change everywhere, from federal gun control legislation to addressing the root causes of crime to expanding community-based violence intervention programs at the county and local levels.
“To add insult to injury, there is a video circulating of Paterson police using excessive force on a victim’s family member. I’ve seen the video, and it is outrageous.
“The Office of the Attorney General must immediately launch an independent investigation into this incident. Every family affected by violence deserves justice.”
