American Federation Of Teachers Launch Three New Ads Targeting Grossman, Webber, and MacArthur

“As a nurse of 33 years, I pledged to protect the patients committed to my care. Now I’m pledging to vote against politicians who don’t.”
Trenton, NJ – Today, the American Federation of Teachers launched three new digital advertising campaigns urging New Jerseyans to vote for the future of their health care and reject Tom MacArthur, Seth Grossman, and Trump-endorsed Jay Webber’s bids to claim seats in the U.S. House. The ad features Sheryl Mount, a registered nurse of 33 years and New Jersey resident, laying out the facts:
  • In Congress, Tom MacArthur, while profiting off the millions of dollars in insurance company investments he owns, wrote the legislation to strip protections for people with pre-existing conditions, including 30,000 residents of his own district.
  • As candidates, both Jay Webber and Seth Grossman support McArthur’s bill and efforts to dismantle the ACA, jeopardizing the health of four million New Jerseyans.
The ads are echoed by new websites lambasting the candidates’ records: Tom MacArthur, Seth Grossman, and Jay Webber.
“Candidates MacArthur, Webber, and Grossman seem to be in a race to see who can cozy up closest to Trump and furthest from the needs and wants of New Jersey’s families. These guys are intent on jeopardizing the health of millions, stripping away coverage from people with preexisting conditions and the elderly – all to feather their own nests. Incredibly, they act this way and still they expect New Jerseyans to pick up the tab,” said AFT President Randi Weingarten. “No one in Jersey should be one pre-existing condition away from a disaster. That’s why New Jersey nurses, health care professionals and educators proudly support Jeff Van Drew, Mike Sherrill, and Andy Kim.”
The digital video ads are paid for by AFT Solidarity, www.aft.org, not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee.
The scripts follow below…
Jay Webber supports the Republican bill that gets rid of protections for people with pre-existing conditions, increases deductibles and out-of-pocket costs, and does nothing to lower the price of prescription drugs.
Jay Webber’s plan would kick 4 million of us in New Jersey off health insurance, including 28,000 residents of this district.
As a nurse of 33 years, I pledged to protect the patients committed to my care. Now I’m pledging to vote against politicians who don’t.
Seth Grossman supports the Republican bill to get rid of protections for people with pre-existing conditions, including 42,000 residents of this district.
Grossman’s plan would kick 4 million of us in New Jersey off health insurance. He even believes insurers should be allowed to discriminate against sick people because he thinks they are a result of “bad decisions.”
As a nurse for 33 years, I pledged to protect the patients committed to my care.
Now I’m pledging to vote against politicians who don’t.
Tom MacArthur wrote the bill to get rid of protections for people with pre-existing conditions, including 30,000 residents of this district, while profiting off the millions of dollars in insurance company investments he owns.
While he’s making money, Congressman MacArthur’s plan would kick 4 million of us in New Jersey off health insurance.
As a nurse of 33 years, I pledged to protect the patients committed to my care.
Now I’m pledging to vote against politicians who don’t.
