Americans for Prosperity Foundation-New Jersey Releases Launches New Digital Ad Buy on Pension Crisis
TRENTON, NJ – Americans for Prosperity Foundation-New Jersey today unveiled a new digital ad as part of the Safeguard New Jersey’s Future Project, the organization’s effort to educate New Jersey residents on the state’s pension crisis. The video uses humor to highlight the problem and offer viewers possible options to solve the crisis, like offering new employees a 401(k)-style defined contribution plan. Safeguard New Jersey’s Future, which is AFP Foundation’s priority effort this year, also includes a mail campaign and an event series.
The lighthearted video features a family sitting around a dinner table and a dejected teenage daughter, who represents New Jersey, complaining about money issues, exclaiming, “I need reform!” and asking her parents for advice on how to address it.
“The Garden State’s total unfunded pension liabilities have reached a staggering $235 billion according to State Budget Solutions, but the crisis has been ignored because the public has been kept in the dark about the facts,” said AFPF-NJ State Director Erica Jedynak. “The first public pension fund goes broke in four years, and if we don’t fix this problem today, we face higher taxes and cuts to essential services tomorrow. We aim to raise awareness on the issue and let New Jersey residents know that while our pension crisis is dire, our situation isn’t hopeless – yet. With thoughtful reforms, we can safeguard our state’s future, move toward something resembling fiscal sanity, and get New Jersey on the comeback track.”
The grassroots organization had previously unveiled two animated digital ads that highlight the size and scope of the pension crisis and the costly, harmful effects it will have on New Jersey residents if left unaddressed.
