Amoroso, Woolley encouraged by bipartisan outrage over school funding preferential treatment

Ocean Township, NJ — Following reports of Governor Murphy’s decision to allocate millions of dollars in school aid, in addition to and outside of increases already apportioned under the school funding formula, Legislative District 11 General Assembly candidates Mike Amoroso and Matt Woolley look forward to working with members of both parties and stakeholders to remedy school funding injustices in Monmouth County and statewide.

“Even Senator Gopal, who voted for the 2018 law that redistributes over $38 million from LD11 school districts to others throughout the state, rightfully recognizes that cherry picking school districts for state funding is fundamentally wrong,” said Amoroso.

Affected residents, educators, community leaders and public officials are demanding the restoration of funding for their districts. Nearly 200 school districts throughout the state – 10 in LD11 alone – are faced with cutting staff and programs.

Woolley continued, “LD11 students, teachers and taxpayers are already hurting from the funding cuts under Senate Bill 2. The situation is amplified by Governor Murphy and his most recent display of favoritism.”

By 2025, over $38 million from LD11 school districts will be reallocated to other counties statewide. In Fiscal Year 2020 alone, Asbury Park, Freehold Regional, and Neptune Township are slated to lose nearly $9 million in state aid. Allenhurst, Deal, Eatontown, Monmouth Regional, Neptune City, Ocean Township and Tinton Falls are also projected to lose more than a combined $1.1 million this upcoming year.
