Analilia Mejia’s “Soccer Mom” Rebrand Draws Red Card from NJ-11 Voters

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ - Democratic nominee Analilia Mejia is attempting a sudden political makeover, telling voters over the weekend, “I’m a soccer mom that lives in Glen Ridge, that pays attention to her 401(k), just like everybody else.” But voters across NJ-11 know a very different political profile for her. It is a profile built on far-left activism, anti-police rhetoric, and a national progressive agenda.

During the course of the special primary, Mejia branded herself as an “Unbought, Unbossed,” activist aligned with the socialist wing of the Democratic Party. She sought endorsements from some of the party’s most left-wing national figures, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and built her entire political career organizing activist movements and pushing extreme campaigns that were far removed from the day-to-day concerns of suburban families in NJ-11.

Her record includes leading one of the most vocal and far-left groups, the New Jersey Working Families Party, which organized and promoted anti-police training at a time when towns across the district were focused on keeping neighborhoods safe, and advocated for fiscal policies that critics say would undermine taxpayers and raise costs.

At recent Democratic forums, Mejia doubled down on her ideological approach, declaring that “any old blue won’t do,” signaling that she intends to push her party even further to the left rather than focus on commonsense solutions.

Mejia’s broader socialist vision for the economy could directly impact the savings of families across the district. While Mejia now says she “pays attention to her 401(k), just like everybody else,” her platform calls for taxing investment income at the same rate as earned income, a policy that would hit retirement savings and long-term investments that thousands of NJ-11 residents rely on to build financial security. For families who have spent decades putting money aside for retirement, Mejia’s proposal could significantly reduce the growth of their savings.

“Voters in the 11th District know authenticity when they see it, and this rebrand just doesn’t match the record,” said Republican nominee Joe Hathaway. “Ms. Mejia can’t spend years building a career as a far-left activist and suddenly pretend to be a moderate suburban mom when it’s politically convenient for her. Families here want leadership focused on affordability, safety, and common sense, not a political reinvention tour.”

Joe Hathaway is the Republican nominee for Congress in New Jersey’s 11th District. Hathaway has served on the Randolph Township Council since 2022, and is the immediate past Mayor. He lives in Randolph with his wife Whitney, and their three young children.
