Asbury Park Democrats Elect New Leadership, Launching a New Era of Community Engagement and Party Building

ASBURY PARK, N.J., June 27, 2026 — The Asbury Park Democratic Committee has elected a new executive board, ushering in a new chapter focused on strengthening the local Democratic Party through grassroots organizing, neighborhood engagement, and year-round community involvement.

The newly elected leadership will be led by Chair Jacquelyn Godbey and Vice Chair Tyree Morton, alongside a diverse and energetic executive board that reflects the many voices, backgrounds, and generations that make up Asbury Park.

The new leadership recognizes that the local Democratic Party must be more than an organization active only during election season. The committee identified several challenges, including declining voter participation, low civic engagement, and a need for a stronger year-round presence in the community.

A central part of this effort will be the implementation of a nine-district organizing strategy, designed to build stronger relationships in every neighborhood of Asbury Park by working district by district, neighborhood by neighborhood, and block by block.

Godbey said, "Our vision is to build a Democratic Party that truly belongs to the people of Asbury Park. That means listening first, showing up consistently, and empowering residents to help shape the future of our city."

Morton added, "We want every resident to know that the Asbury Park Democrats are here to serve the community. Our goal is to create lasting relationships, increase civic participation, and build an organization that works collaboratively to improve Asbury Park for everyone."

Monmouth County Democratic Chairwoman Dyese Davis welcomed the new leadership, stating: "The Monmouth County Democrats welcome Jacquelyn Godbey as Asbury Park Chair and Tyree Morton as Vice-Chair and are excited to see what they will accomplish in their first term. We also want to thank Angela Ahbez-Anderson and Pedro Trivella for their years of service."

The Asbury Park Democratic Committee also extends its sincere appreciation to former Chair Angela Ahbez-Anderson and former Vice Chair Pedro Trivella for their years of service.

With a renewed commitment to organizing, transparency, and collaboration, the new executive board looks forward to working alongside residents, community organizations, committee members, and elected officials to strengthen civic participation and build a stronger future for Asbury Park.
