Assembly Panels Move on Bills to Strike Down “Gay or Trans- Panic” Criminal Defense, Put an End to School Lunch Shaming, & Strengthen Protections for Workers Against Misclassification

***Measures Also to be Considered Would Expand Crime of Terrorism & Would Engage Public Transportation Employees in the Fight Against Human Trafficking***

 

(TRENTON) – Promoting and expanding school meal programs in New Jersey schools, and addressing the growing concerns of workers being misclassified as independent contractors by employers’ top Monday Assembly committee agendas.

In addition, the Assembly Judiciary panel will receive testimony on legislation that would prohibit “gay or trans- panic” defense for murder and prevent the reduction of a murder charge to manslaughter committed in the heat of passion. Currently, seven states ban its use – California, Rhode Island, Illinois, Nevada, and Connecticut New York and Hawaii. The Assembly Judiciary Committee will meet on Monday, November 18, 2019 at 10:00 AM in Committee Room 12, 4th Floor, State House Annex, Trenton, NJ.

All committees will be held in the Statehouse in Trenton starting at 10 a.m.
