Assemblywoman DeCroce fails to gain party line at Passaic Republican Convention

MORRIS COUNTY (March 8, 2017) – In a stunning upset, conservative Republican Morris County Freeholder and Legislative District 26 Assembly candidate Hank Lyon tied with incumbent Assemblywoman BettyLou DeCroce for the June 6 primary endorsement by the Passaic County Regular Republican Organization (PCRRO).

Last night’s convention tie has triggered a second round of voting, to be scheduled in the coming days. It is extremely rare for an incumbent legislator to not receive the party organization’s endorsement.

Lyon expressed his gratitude to the PCRRO Committee and congratulated Assemblyman Webber on his victory.

“I am humbled by the support I received from the Passaic County Republicans. I will work tirelessly to win the support of every Republican committee member ahead of the runoff convention,” Lyon said. “I also congratulate Assemblyman Jay Webber on receiving the party’s endorsement. I hope to join him in offering a unified conservative message this fall,” Lyon added.

West Milford is the only Passaic County town in Legislative District 26, but the second largest by population.

“I will work hard to take my message of lower taxes, less debt, and more freedom to the voters of West Milford and Passaic County. I am confident that my platform and my record of reducing taxes, will impress the Republican leaders in Passaic County,” Lyon continued.

Morris County Freeholder since 2012, Lyon draws a contrast between himself and

DeCroce by highlighting his conservative record of holding down taxes and eliminating health benefits for part-time freeholders, while pointing out that DeCroce voted for the 23-cent gas tax increase last November.
