Assemblywoman Park Responds to Governor Murphy’s Action on Bills to Protect Immigrant Communities

Of the three bills Park sponsored, only A6308 became law; she plans to reintroduce the pocket vetoed legislation

(TRENTON) – Assemblywoman Ellen J. Park released the following statement today after Governor Murphy’s signing of A6308 into law and renewed her commitment to advancing A6309 and A6310, two immigrant-protection bills the governor pocket-vetoed this morning.

“I am pleased that Governor Murphy signed the Safe Communities Act, legislation that will help ensure our immigrant neighbors can safely send their children to school and access essential services without fear. However, I am disappointed that A6309 and A6310 were not signed into law, as they would have protected the privacy of New Jerseyans’ data, and helped build a better sense of trust between law enforcement and immigrant communities. As an immigrant myself, these bills are deeply personal, which is why I remain committed to reintroducing this legislation in our new legislative session. I am grateful to the advocates who worked tirelessly with us, providing input that was crucial to drafting legislation that would have protected New Jersey residents. While these bills were not signed into law this time, our efforts do not end here.”
