Atlantic City Awarded $200,000 Grant for Road Safety Program

Atlantic City, N.J. (February 3, 2023) – U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced that the City of Atlantic City has been awarded a $200,000 grant to fund roadway safety planning.  This money will allow the city to conduct a safety study to determine issues that need to be addressed.

“We’ve been hearing Atlantic City residents ask for road safety improvements during City Council and CitiStat meetings, and this grant will help us address that all too important issue,” said City of Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small, Sr. “Traffic safety has always been a priority of the Small administration. Now, not only do we have the funding for well-planned solutions, but this money also prequalifies the city for construction dollars.”

According to a news release from the U.S. Department of Transportation, the competitive grant is from the new USDOT Safe Streets and Roads for All Grant Program funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act. The program provides $5 billion over five years for initiatives — from redesigned roads to better sidewalks and crosswalks — to prevent deaths and serious injuries on the nation’s roadways.  (Read the full release: https://bit.ly/3l5GKV1)

Cape May City joins Atlantic City as the only two South Jersey communities that were awarded these planning grants.
