ATNJ Endorses Moira Nelson for Monmouth County Freeholder, Allison Friedman for State Assembly in LD 13

MADISON, NJ, May 21, 2019 – Action Together New Jersey (ATNJ) is proud to announce our endorsements of Moira Nelson for Monmouth County Freeholder and Allison Friedman for State Assembly for Legislative District (LD) 13.

ATNJ believes in supporting candidates with ties in the area, who understand their community, seeing the changes implemented by legislation and the effects on their constituents. We believe that the power lies with the people, and that good government means that its public servants work to serve the community and the residents who live and pay taxes there.

As explained by Tricia Maguire, ATNJ Shore Area Co-Chair, “Allison’s entire career has been about advocating for small business, children and others who are marginalized. As an Assemblywoman, Allison will represent all community members! She truly believes that good government is for the people, all the people, not just the people with loud voices. Moira Nelson, an advocacy leader dedicated to justice and social equity, was born and raised in Monmouth County and has been a lifelong advocate for the issues she champions. Moira will bring a clear, ambitious, and innovative vision as a Freeholder.”

We asked the candidates why they are running to serve their communities. What is broken that voters should vote for them to serve?

Nelson answered forthrightly, “I’m running for office because it is becoming increasingly unaffordable to live here – especially for our most vulnerable neighbors. Affordability and access to services for all residents will be top priorities. Historically, Monmouth County has been a leader in innovation and technology. We can and should be leading the state in planning for a resilient, sustainable future that safeguards our natural resources and that creates opportunity and good, “green” jobs. We should be committed to regional planning that is laser-focused on stormwater solutions, flood mitigation, the shoreline and erosion (not just “down the shore” but along the Bayshore too.) The health of our local economy is directly correlated to the health of our environment. I am committed to listening, to focusing on solutions, and if elected, I would be honored to represent the County where I was born and raised to prioritize your concerns on the Board of Chosen Freeholders.”

Added Friedman, “I’m running because this area has not been represented; their voices have not been heard and problems and concerns have not been addressed. For too long we have not been heard. For too long there has been no meaningful action on our behalf. Whether the issue concerns the environment, school district, roads, or still languishing Sandy recovery I will listen to those concerns, I will hear those concerns and I will give this district a seat at the table.”
