Bashaw: Americans Deserve Answers on Suspected ISIS Terrorists Entering at the Border

Andy Kim Supports Biden’s Open Border, Votes Against “Police Our Border Act”

CAPE MAY — Curtis Bashaw, New Jersey Republican candidate for United States Senate, joined 21 United States Senators who sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas in demanding answers on how 8 individuals with suspected ties to ISIS were permitted to enter the U.S. southern border. The individuals were recently arrested by ICE after one was reportedly caught on a wiretap talking about bombs.

“Americans deserve answers from Secretary Mayorkas and President Biden on how the Department of Homeland Security could have possibly permitted individuals connected to ISIS to enter the United States at the southern border,” said Curtis Bashaw, New Jersey Republican candidate for United States Senate. “Additionally, under the Biden Administration, there have been 1.7 million ‘got-aways’ who’ve successfully evaded understaffed border patrol agents and disappeared into our country.  We have no idea who these people are, where they’re from, and whether they pose a risk to American citizens. We need to secure our borders now and prioritize protecting our American families.”

“Unfortunately, Andy Kim has been on record stating he doesn’t believe the border should be closed, and he even voted against the Police Our Border Act last month, which would analyze the impact of the border crisis on our nation’s law enforcement,” Bashaw continued. “Andy Kim doesn’t have the backs of border patrol agents, our law enforcement officers, or New Jersey families who’ve been negatively impacted by this border crisis. As United States Senator, I will work to secure our borders, support our men and women in law enforcement, and protect our families and neighborhoods.  New Jerseyans deserve nothing less.”

HR 8146, “Police Our Border Act”, would mandate the Attorney General compile a report on the border crisis’s impacts on law enforcement agencies across the United States – quantifying the impacts of an ever-expanding crisis and allowing Congress the ability to know where best to direct future resources.

According to the bill sponsor, Rep. D’Esposito (R-NY-4), the bill includes several key indicators that the Justice Department would be compelled to measure in American law enforcement agencies:

  • The exposure of law enforcement personnel to harmful narcotics being smuggled into the United States, such as fentanyl.
  • The estimated costs law enforcement agencies incur to address illegal immigration.
  • The extent to which resources to tackle the migrant crisis are currently unavailable to law enforcement agencies.
  • The number of injuries law enforcement personnel sustain in the line of duty tied to border security violations.
  • The overall morale of law enforcement personnel who are forced to endure added duties because of the migrant/narcotics smuggling crisis.

The bill passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 254-157 on May 16, 2024.
