Beach Bill to Create ‘Brewery, Cidery, Distillery and Meadery Trail Sign Program’ Clears Committee

Trenton – Legislation sponsored by Senate State Government, Wagering, Tourism and Historic Preservation Chair James Beach, which would create a “Brewery, Cidery, Distillery and Meadery Trail Sign Program,” cleared the Senate State Government, Wagering, Tourism and Historic Preservation Committee today.

“The state’s brewery industry has grown significantly in the past decade, employing hundreds of people,” said Senator Beach (D-Burlington/Camden). “By giving more visibility to breweries and distilleries in our state we can establish them as tourist destinations and help the industry to continue growing.”

The bill, S-3193, would provide awareness of and promote a trail-like path throughout the state of breweries, cideries, distilleries and meaderies. Alcohol manufacturers could apply to have a sign directing people to their business.

Special consideration would be given to locations that are in close proximity to one another or are thematically linked by surrounding arts, cultural or exhibits of interest to tourists.

Under the bill, the State Council on the Arts would establish a visual arts competition to gather original artwork to be placed on the signs.

The bill was released from committee by a vote of 3-0, and next heads to the full Senate for further consideration.
