Bergen County Sheriff to Host Event with Local High School Students Aimed at Combating Hate
Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton is teaming up with the Simon Wiesenthal Center, the Bergen County NAACP, and the Urban League of Bergen County on Tuesday, March 26 to present a timely and important conversation for high school students from the Frisch School and the Englewood Public School District on the devastating impact of hate and bigotry.
The event will feature Dwania Kyles and TM Garret, two civil rights activists who have dedicated their lives to combat the effects of anti-Semitism and racism.
Dwania Kyles is one of the Memphis 13 students who were the first to integrate the Memphis City Public Schools in 1961 during the center of the Civil Rights Movement.
TM Garret is a German-American author, producer, filmmaker and human rights activist who in his youth was a radicalized white supremacist. He left the movement and relocated to the United States and found C.H.A.N.G.E., a Memphis-based non-profit organization that engaged in community programs to combat hate, racism, and violence.
