BERGEN GOP EMBRACES EXTREMIST, BIGOTED FRINGE TO FUND CAMPAIGNS
Anti-LGBTQ Headliner at Republican Fundraiser Has
Compared Same-Sex Marriage to People Marrying Animals
HACKENSACK – In the latest sign that Bergen County Republicans are abandoning voters, the party held a breakfast fundraiser on Thursday with a fringe right-wing radio host notorious for his extremist rhetoric and bigoted, anti-LGBTQ views, who once equated same-sex marriage with people marrying dogs.
Many Republican elected officials and candidates for state and local office attended the event co-headlined by Kevin McCullough, who has also said gay people are “damaging to society,” and called President Obama “a man who represents the views of Satan at worst or progressive anti-God liberals at best,” predicting he would be the “most negative influence” on African Americans in the nation’s history.
Bergen Republicans’ sustained embrace of the most extremist, bigoted fringe elements within the party has not gone unnoticed even among other Republicans. In fact, the Bergen GOP’s former chairman has lamented his party’s “sharp-right turn.”
“By cozying up to bigots and far-right extremists, Bergen Republicans will only drift further into obscurity,” said Democratic Committee of Bergen County Chairman Paul Juliano. “Voters in Bergen County want to support candidates who are focused on real issues that affect their lives, not those who embrace hate and division.”
