Bernards Township GOP Endorses Janice Fields as Republican Candidate for Bernards Township Committee

The Bernards Township Republican Municipal Committee (BTRMC) held its screening at the Liberty Corner Firehouse on Monday, March 18, 2019, and endorsed Republican Janice Fields to run on the GOP line for a 3-year term in the upcoming November election.

“We congratulate Janice for earning our endorsement,” said Richard Bianchi, Chairman of the BTRMC. “Bernards is rich in talent and full of residents who love living here. We take seriously our role to select qualified Republican candidates to run for office who intend to keep Bernards a great place to live, work, and raise a family. I also want to extend appreciation to Al LiCata for seeking our endorsement. Both candidates expressed a deep admiration for our community and an eagerness to serve,” Bianchi added.

Ms. Fields is a 27-year resident of Bernards Township, wife, and mother of twin sons, both of whom graduated from Ridge High. “As a leader, one must be willing to stand up and advocate for their community. The residents of Bernards deserve an open government and a seat at the table. Without our voices, any decisions made will not be the strongest. I pledge as their leader that they will have that opportunity,” stated Fields. “I will work side by side with our residents for true fiscal responsibility and greater opportunities for our community to engage in government.”

Ms. Fields is a human resource and employee benefits professional by trade. Presently, she is serving as Chair on the Somerset County Commission on the Status of Women. Fields spearheads such programs as “A Woman’s Story,” a five-member panel of professional women from a variety of cultural backgrounds who share their experiences as immigrants to the United States. Fields leads the panel that selects the recipients of the “Outstanding Women of Somerset County Award,” which annually recognizes nine Somerset County residents for their contributions to their communities. She is also involved in organizing the subsidy of a STEM program for girls.

“Through my involvement in our community, I have become a strong voice for women, and enjoy mentoring and educating them on becoming fearless leaders,” asserts Fields. “Women offer an important perspective that is underrepresented in our government and now more than ever we need the unique contributions their perspectives offer. I hope my candidacy will inspire other women from diverse backgrounds to stand up and be a part of the conversation on the political stage.”

Committed to improving the quality of life in her community, Fields has served on the Bernards Township Beautification and Dewey Meadow Task Forces and the Society Hill Condominium Community Board and Cell Phone Tower Task Force. She was active in her sons’ schools serving as a class mother and was a Bernards Township Girl Scout Leader. In 2016, she founded and still organizes the Bernards Township First Responders Appreciation Night.

Fields is a past member of the board of the Somerset County Office on Aging where her focus was helping senior citizens. “I understand the challenges facing our aging population and how it not only impacts our elders but their caretakers and families,” she said of this experience.

“I am proud to call New Jersey and Bernards Township my home. I appreciate the opportunities Bernards has afforded my family. We have an amazing school system, a first-class park system, and a warm welcoming community,” stated Fields. “My goal is for future generations to have the same positive experiences my family has had.”

In 2016, she was the recipient of the Somerset County Federation of Republican Women Millicent Fenwick Award. This award, granted for distinguished public service, is presented annually and it acknowledges and recognizes those women who have dedicated their lives to providing outstanding public service to others. She has also been serving as a Somerset County Republican State Committeewoman for the past five years.

“The role of the government is to serve the best interests of its’ community. I became involved in politics because I wanted to protect my community by stopping a cell tower being built next to residents’ homes,” says Fields. “As a Township Committeewoman, my experience in advocating for my community and my knowledge of county and state resources will provide me with the tools necessary to serve the citizens of Bernards Township. I am excited for the challenge and look forward to serving the citizens of Bernards Township,” concluded Fields.
